I don't do this enough

It occurs to me that I don't blog enough, since people who check in with us are still asking about Matt's surgery. That's was a while ago now. I guess I never posted an update. He got a week off from work, and is completely recovered. Thanks for all the inquiries.

Matt was gone Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week to Fargo for "Exercise University" where he learned a lot about the exercise equipment that Scheels sells and how to be a fitness consultant rather than just a salesperson.

A couple of weeks ago, Matt made the declaration that when we go back to Indiana in January (oh, by the way, Indiana friends, we're coming back for Rachel Vetor's wedding the first weekend in January), he wants to be fit. Not just thinner (he's lost probably 30-40 lbs since our return to SD), but fit. I decided that if he's going to look that good, perhaps I shouldn't look as flabby as I do now (I know, sheer vanity), so I took that as a challenge and started working out every day. I am currently on day 21 of doing some kind of workout every day, and I must say, I can see results. I'm not as scientific as my dear friend Tina who has charts and graphs and measures ratios, pounds and inches. I don't even have a scale. Of course, she's a scientist and I'm an artist. All I know is that my pants are looser, and nobody asks me if I'm pregnant anymore (which really did happen about 2 months ago- wake up call!)

How's Matt's progress? Well, he's been for 2 bike rides since I started my workout regimen. And now he knows more about strength training, so he says he's going to put a plan together and get serious about starting this weekend. But he's gone down a pants size, a shirt size and one or two holes in his belt. Not since 3 weeks ago, but since last year. Of course, he works 40+ hours a week...

Conversation with Xander

Last night on the way to a meeting at church, Xander & I were talking about his science assignment, which was to think about different parts of plants that we can eat, and I mentioned leaves and how we eat the leaves of herbs like Rosemary and Thyme...

X: Thyme?! What's that?
A: It's a plant. It's spelled T-H-Y-M-E
X: Never heard of it.
A: Just because you've never heard of it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. (this is a point I have to make with him frequently)
X: I don't believe it's a real word.
A: Well it is.
X: Look. I've been learning all kinds of new words in 2nd grade, and I never learned that one, so I don't think it's a word.
A: OK...
X: I mean, I know we walk by faith and not by sight...
A: GOOD APPLICATION, XANDER!
X: But I still don't believe it's a word.

Where does he get this constant need to be right? (Answer: from his dad)

The Difference Between Boys and Girls

Today Maia informed me that the difference between boys and girls is that boys have a "hooflebobber," and girls don't.
